Katalox “Ariel” Guitar Bouzouki

It’s only vaguely an Ariel, that is just the body size, and I chose that to fit the pieces of wood that I pulled out of the store.

The back and sides are “Katalox” - Swartzia Cubensis, from South America, it is a well known wood in guitar making but not used very much, there isn’t enough available to make a name for itself, which is a shame , as it is one of a number of woods that has sometimes been sold as Brazilian Rosewood , it has many of the same characteristics.

The top is Englemann Spruce, again, an unusual piece. I’ve managed to remove the wider grain, and the part we have used is  exceptionally fine, that’s  what happens with a small guitar and a lot of wood to choose from, Part of that choice was curly Walnut bindings.

We’ve made this  largely to show one particular person but it’s massive fun for us to have a complete free reign in everything and I wanted to make it anyway. If you speak to Alex and Paul, they will tell you through gritted teeth, that left to myself, every guitar would be different, every single time.
